The MTV Movie Awards: What to expect

The MTV Movie Awards show is not exactly the Oscars. In terms of classiness, it’s not even the Golden Globes or the People’s Choic Awards.

The annual, decidedly silly ceremony — which airs live tonight at 9 ET on MTV — involves handing out popcorn bucket trophies in such illustrious categories as Best Scared-as-[Expletive] Performance and, more importantly, relentlessly promoting movies coming to a multiplex near you. It also specializes in delivering unexpected and decidedly crude TV moments carefully designed to keep MTV in the pop culturally relevant category. (Please see Sacha Baron Cohen sticking his posterior into Eminem’s face a couple of years ago. Or don’t, since it’s probably taken two years to erase that image from your brain.)

Is Whitney Houston Really Battling Emphysema?!

So True? So False? Is Whitney Houston Really Battling Emphysema?!

With all due respect to Whitney Houston's lungs, rumors that the pop diva is battling emphysema aren't exactly the most unbelievable reports out there. Though, if true, they would be among the saddest.

movie review - X-Men: First Class a Surprisingly Swingin' Good Time

Review in a Hurry: The prequel none of us thought we wanted turns out to be more of a fun time than anybody expected. A return to form for the X-flicks, this semi-prequel/reboot remembers above all else to be fun, without any gross bastardizations to the source (like the portrayal of Deadpool in the Wolverine movie).

It also allows Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and January Jones (among many others) to increase their degree of proximity to Kevin Bacon, who plays the villain.
The Bigger Picture: Best not to worry exactly how this new movie fits in to the existing cinematic continuity, as it features some crowd-pleasing, deliberate shoutouts to the Bryan Singer films while also containing significant contradictions.

After decades of trying to live within the rigid parameters of the food pyramid, a plump American populace now has a more practical option: the plate.

First lady Michelle Obama was on hand to help unveil the plate Thursday, which now replaces the historic (and, for some, historically confusing) guidelines found within the food pyramid.

Mitt Romney 2012 Campaign For President Launches

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney declared his candidacy for president of United States on Thursday.

The Republican hopeful made the announcement in the key early primary state of New Hampshire, the same battleground featured in a web video he released earlier this year in launching his presidential exploratory committee.

Romney's pitch was tailored to the conservatives who hold great sway in picking the GOP's presidential nominee in Iowa and South Carolina — and the independents who are the largest political bloc in New Hampshire. And it was as much a thesis on his viability as it was an indictment of Obama's leadership.

Ricky Rubio is Coming to USA !!

No do-rags, no baggy jeans, no grunting, no excessively loud noise. Sound like rules for your local library? Think again.

These are a few of the rules of Planet Fitness, a gym that touts it’s self as the “Judgment Fee Zone.” They claim that they impose these rules to keep out the “lunks“, and according to their logic, lunks are generally the source of any judging that occurs. The problem with their ruleset is that they are actually stereotyping (read judging) anyone that applies vigor to their workouts. In fact, if you break any of their rules, they set off an alarm that has a spinning light and sounds like a tornado siren so that everyone can look at you (in a nonjudging manner of course).

Despite the stupid rules, the purple and yellow franchise does deserve a pat on the back for its recent donation to breast cancer research. According to a recent press release Planet Fitness donated $370,200 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation which they managed to raise through a special Mother’s Day promotion that took place from May 1-10, 2011.
