Planet Fitness - Is Planet Fitness the Earth’s Worst Gym?

No do-rags, no baggy jeans, no grunting, no excessively loud noise. Sound like rules for your local library? Think again.

These are a few of the rules of Planet Fitness, a gym that touts it’s self as the “Judgment Fee Zone.” They claim that they impose these rules to keep out the “lunks“, and according to their logic, lunks are generally the source of any judging that occurs. The problem with their ruleset is that they are actually stereotyping (read judging) anyone that applies vigor to their workouts. In fact, if you break any of their rules, they set off an alarm that has a spinning light and sounds like a tornado siren so that everyone can look at you (in a nonjudging manner of course).

Despite the stupid rules, the purple and yellow franchise does deserve a pat on the back for its recent donation to breast cancer research. According to a recent press release Planet Fitness donated $370,200 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation which they managed to raise through a special Mother’s Day promotion that took place from May 1-10, 2011.

“The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is thrilled by this remarkable donation.  It is a testament to the commitment and dedication of Planet Fitness,” said Myra J. Biblowit, president of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  ”Through this donation, Planet Fitness will support one BCRF research project in 2011-2012 and will ensure our ability to beat breast cancer in our lifetime.  We are extremely grateful for this generous gift.”
In summary, if you’re looking for a cheap, (10 dollars a month membership) breast loving, “judgement free”, place to get your workout on, Planet Fitness is a sure win.
