Grand Jury Indicts John Edwards on Six Counts Over Hunter Affair

On Friday, a grand jury indicted former two-time Presidential candidate and congressman John Edwards on six counts, including conspiracy, four counts of illegal campaign contributions and one count of false statements, over allegedly using campaign funds to hide his relationship with Rielle Hunter.

That relationship, an affair while he was still married to the late Elizabeth Edwards, also involved a "love child" named Frances Quinn Hunter. Edwards denied being the father of the child for more than two years before finally admitting he was the father in 2010. Elizabeth Edwards died in December 2010, at the time estranged from her husband of 33 years.

The federal grand jury indictment handed down Friday against former North Carolina Senator John Edwards charges the two-time Democratic presidential candidate of four counts of illegal campaign contributions, conspiracy and making false statements in connection with a cover-up of his extramarital affair.
"Person A" appears to reference former staffer Andrew Young, who for a time claimed Edward's illegitimate child as his own; "Person B" is Rielle Hunter, a videographer covering the Edwards campaign with whom the candidate had an extramarital affair, and who gave birth to Edwards' child in February 2008; "Person C" would be heiress Rachel "Bunny" Mellon, a major donor to Edwards' campaign; and "Person D" would be Texas lawyer Fred Baron, who served as Edwards' campaign finance chairman.

Pa. woman sues Dunkin' Donuts over sugar in coffee

PHILADELPHIA -- A Philadelphia woman is suing Dunkin' Donuts, saying a worker mistakenly put sugar in her coffee that ultimately caused her to go into diabetic shock.

Danielle Jordan's lawsuit claims she asked for artificial sweetener to be added to her coffee during a June 2009 visit. Jordan claims she downed the drink and experienced dizziness, light-headedness and ended up making an emergency trip to the hospital.

John Edwards Indicted: Charged With Conspiracy, Campaign Finance Violations By Federal Grand Jury

RALEIGH, North Carolina (AP) -- A federal grand jury indicted two-time presidential candidate John Edwards on Friday over $925,000 spent to keep his mistress and their baby in hiding during the peak of his 2008 campaign for the White House.

The case of USA v. Johnny Reid Edwards contains six counts, including conspiracy, four counts of illegal campaign contributions and one count of false statements.


The indictment said the payments were a scheme to protect Edwards' White House ambitions. "A centerpiece of Edwards' candidacy was his public image as a devoted family man," the indictment said.

Jack Kevorkian Died

Assisted-suicide activist Jack Kevorkian, who was released from prison in 2007 after serving eight years for second-degree murder, died today in a Michigan hospital. 

He was 83. Best known for helping 130 terminally ill people painlessly kill themselves, Kevorkian promised to no longer advise people on suicide as a term of his parole. 


According to his lawyer, it appears that he "suffered a pulmonary thrombosis when a blood clot from his leg broke free and lodged in his heart." When he died, the lawyer added, "he didn't feel a thing."
